The Arrecife City Council has approved this Saturday in its plenary session corresponding to the month of July to declare the Minister of Industry, Tourism and Energy, José Manuel Soria, "persona non grata".
The motion, presented by Alternativa Ciudadana, has obtained the support of the PSOE and Emilia Perdomo and the abstentions of CC, PIL, PNL and Nayra Callero. Only the three PP councilors present in the debate voted against.
The imposition of the crude oil business in Canary waters, against the popular will expressed in several public actions of massive support, was the argument for this request by the councilor of Alternativa Ciudadana, Domingo García.
The socialist spokesman, Pedro Viera, added "Soria's contempt for those who take to the streets to defend their opinion freely and peacefully, the snub to the Canarian and Lanzarote institutions and the opacity in the processing of public files" which in his opinion, "are some of the features that characterize the way the minister who governs against the Canary Islands acts".
The mayor of Arrecife, Manuel Fajardo, on behalf of Coalición Canaria, defended his abstention "to go further and ask for the resignation of Minister Soria, because in view of his actions and behavior with the Canary Islands, he accumulates merits to leave his government responsibilities".
