The accidental auditor of Arrecife resigns from her position four months after her appointment

The acting auditor of the Arrecife City Council, Carmen Villaverde, has resigned from her position only four and a half months after her appointment, on June 6. The City Council must now accept her resignation, which will take effect when a replacement is appointed.

Villaverde, a career civil servant and general administration technician, had been working as an accountant since September 1994 and was responsible for that department. She was appointed after the arrest and imprisonment at the end of May of the auditor Carlos Sáenz, within the Monte Carlo operation. Sáenz remains in prison.

In recent years, the main official positions of the Arrecife City Council have had to be restructured. First, the secretary Felipe Fernández Camero was dismissed in 2004 for incompatibility, who years later was arrested within the Union operation; and later, in 2010, the head of the Technical Office, Rafael Arrocha, was changed, who was arrested in that same operation.
