During this summer, the municipality of Teguise has become the fourth to exceed 20,000 inhabitants, after Arrecife, San Bartolomé and Tías. The population growth in its 23 population centers, all of them, except Costa Teguise, with a marked rural character, has been gradual in recent years until reaching this figure.
As of today, the total population of the municipality amounts to 20,306 inhabitants, with only three localities with censuses exceeding one thousand residents: Costa Teguise, with 7,192 (representing a third of the total number of inhabitants), Tahíche with 4,002 and the Villa de Teguise with 1,714. This indicates a significant population dispersion of the territory, even more so, if we take into account that in seven of the twenty-three populations, 100 inhabitants are not reached, or barely exceeded.
Costa Teguise has seen its figures skyrocket in recent years thanks to tourism and population growth, followed by the town of Tahíche and a Villa de Teguise stagnant in the statistics during recent years.
Los Ancones, the smallest
Nazaret (994 inhabitants), ranks fourth in this ranking with figures very similar to those of the coastal town of Caleta de Famara (951 inhabitants), which has gradually grown to become the fifth in the municipality.
Considering that only a geographical segment of Charco del Palo belongs to this municipality, since the largest extension of it belongs to Haría, it must be concluded that Los Ancones becomes the smallest town of the 23 Teguise nuclei.
