The Teguise City Council approved this Wednesday in plenary session and unanimously by all political groups the public tender for the award of the management of the municipality's public lighting service. Thus begins the process to select an Energy Services Company (ESE) that is willing to undertake investments in the improvement and modernization of public lighting worth more than two million euros, "guaranteeing savings of up to 30 percent of the current bill and considerably reducing the municipality's CO2 emissions footprint."
According to the estimates contained in the technical and administrative specifications, "which in a few days will be available to companies interested in bidding," the municipality of Teguise will have investments of more than two million euros in public lighting that will be borne by the awarded company, and "that will have an impact on savings of more than five million euros on the City Council's bill," according to the Consistory.
Likewise, they affirm that "this initiative of the Municipal Corporation is a clear commitment to savings, efficiency and innovation, both in management processes and in the technology to be applied, and with this it is intended to guarantee an optimal level of management and maintenance of public lighting, while avoiding the consumption of more than 30,000,000 KW/h and therefore the emission of 20,000 tons of CO2, which is equivalent to the annual consumption of about 8,000 vehicles a year circulating on the roads of the municipality."
"Improve quality and sustainability"
The mayor of Teguise, Oswaldo Betancort, has stated that "at this time, reducing spending on the municipality's energy bill is an essential issue and this model allows us to guarantee the quality of the current provision of this public service, and even improve it with investments in efficiency and innovation, save considerably and also improve our sustainability ratios."
On the other hand, Betancort explained that this initiative "means thinking more about citizens, since we improve the management of public resources, which belong to everyone, while unloading a considerable figure from the electricity bill, and these resources can be used for other purposes that are much more necessary today."
The implementation process of the new Energy Services management model for the use and maintenance of public lighting that received plenary support this Wednesday will be launched in the second half of 2014, "with the aim of incorporating savings into the municipal accounts of this year and that the citizens of the municipality of Teguise can enjoy the investments and improvements as soon as possible."
