The Official Gazette of the province of Las Palmas published last Friday the agreement regarding the Modifications of the Strategic Plan of Subsidies of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, corresponding to the Year 2020 and which includes subsidies for the promotion and encouragement of sports.

In this way, the Cabildo, through the Department of Sports, directed by Francisco Javier Aparicio, will allocate 1,085,100 euros for nominated subsidies and other competitive ones aimed at clubs, federations and sports entities and high competition athletes for this 2019/2020 season.

For the president of the Cabildo, M.ª Dolores Corujo, “the support for the world of sports is a priority for this Government group, since both sports schools, which work with hundreds of boys and girls who form the youth system, as well as clubs and elite athletes do an excellent job and take the name of our island beyond our borders.”

For his part, the Minister of Sports, Francisco Javier Aparicio, explains that “nearly a hundred clubs and other entities, as well as elite athletes from our island, will receive this financial aid for the promotion and encouragement of sports, both grassroots and our native sports, such as Canarian wrestling, bowling or Latin sailing”

In this way, the Cabildo grants a total of 314,600 euros to the nominated subsidies for the arbitrations of the Island Games for Economic Promotion and Base Sports activities, for the arbitrations of Base Football, for the promotion and organization of native sports and for the management and organization of sporting events. Likewise, with respect to subsidies through competitive competition, a total of 250,000 euros will be allocated to the Sports Schools of Lanzarote and La Graciosa; 50,000 euros to high-performance athletes with national and international projection and 400,000 euros more for subsidies for the travel of teams and athletes who have to travel outside the island to participate in the different official competitions.

Regarding other nominated sports subsidies, it is worth highlighting the amount of 40,000 euros for the organization, management and promotion of sports activities, as well as another 30,500 euros more for the organization of sports events of insular interest and their promotion outside the island as a sports tourism destination.

The Department of Sports is already working on the Cabildo's budgets for the 2020-2021 season.
