Somos Lanzarote believes that "the delays and disorganization" in the works in Arrecife are causing "serious damage" to merchants and residents of the affected areas. Thus, the formation has accused the city's Government group of "drying up the commercial fabric" of the capital with a management of these works that it does not consider adequate. It reproaches "disorganization in the works" and "lack of sensitivity" towards those who "suffer" them.
The formation believes that the capital's government group "has not contributed any initiative to reduce the problems generated by the works." "The situation of the works on the Avenida Marítima is depressing, the lack of a clear objective of how the area will be added to the insensitive dance of completion dates by the political leaders on duty. From being planned for before Christmas to being announced for March, at the earliest, there is an impermissible gap," they lament.
A commercial fabric "in critical condition"
For Somos Lanzarote, the commercial fabric of the maritime avenue of Arrecife and other places in the capital is "in a complicated situation." In addition, the party denounces the "inactivity" of the City Council to alleviate these problems.
"The commercial fabric of that and other areas of Arrecife, such as the La Vega neighborhood, is in a critical state, and the municipal government is not taking any measures, does not listen to the demands of those affected, nor does it admit the proposals of the opposition in this regard. In addition, the lack of revitalization of these spaces, especially during the Christmas season, contrasts with the treatment received by other commercial spaces in the city," they say.
Likewise, the assembly members recall the situation of the commercial areas of the city's neighborhoods, which they say suffer from an "abandonment" that they describe as "endemic evil." They add that this legislature "has not meant any improvement either: it does not allow redistributing the wealth of the city, nor generating employment in the areas most affected by the economic crisis."
"The city of Arrecife goes at two speeds, that of the center and that of the neighborhoods, whose lack of basic services and institutional support are repeated legislature after legislature. This Government group continues to leave aside the small and medium-sized local businesses of the capital's neighborhoods and it shows this by suspending the Altavista Trade Fair or the absence of Christmas events in the periphery of the city."
"Oversee" the company that carries out the works
From Somos Lanzarote they consider that the institutions should put "urgent measures to alleviate the damage caused by the works to residents and merchants, such as the bonus of some tax during the duration of the works." They also ask to "oversee" the work of the concessionaire company in the case of the works on the avenue.
"You cannot only ask the neighbors for patience, concrete measures are needed and this government group must put them into operation. Likewise, we understand that it should be analyzed whether there are breaches by the concessionaire company and activate all possible mechanisms so that these, if applicable, cease to occur and all the negative consequences derived from them can be compensated," they understand from Somos Lanzarote.
