The Government Delegate in the Canary Islands, José Segura, stated this Monday that there are mother ships dedicated to drug trafficking, "because there is evidence and documentary proof of them," but that talking about ships that traffic people "is literature in the creative mind of others."

Segura, who made these statements after the Spanish Navy patrol boat Cazadora arrived at the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife with the nine detainees of Venezuelan nationality and approximately 2,500 kilos of cocaine that were intercepted in waters near Cape Verde on the fishing vessel 'Fabio Galípoli' last Wednesday, May 24, pointed out that an example of a mother ship is the Fabio Galípoli' which "was going to distribute the drugs to other boats" at some point in the Atlantic Ocean.

José Segura reiterated that, in the matter of trafficking in human beings, "there is not the slightest proof" that there are mother ships because this has been reported by the State Security Forces. "There are many novelists - he specified, referring to those who point out the existence of these boats - and some want to continue playing at fantasizing, but there is no proof whatsoever."

In fact, he indicated that the Navy patrol boat has found several cayucos along the way, about 300 miles from the Canary Islands. "Today, no one who is solidly and intellectually sound believes in the existence of boats with these characteristics," said the Government Delegate, while adding that in the coming days "the sea will become a highway of cayucos."

BRILLIANT OPERATION

Regarding the anti-drug operation, José Segura pointed out that it has been a "brilliant" work, the result of the "extraordinary" cooperation of the Spanish State services in the Canary Islands Community: the National Police Corps, the Civil Guard and the customs surveillance service, which have been an example of coordination, efficiency and public service.

José Segura, who was accompanied by commanders of the National Police Corps and the Civil Guard, among others, declared that as a public servant and a citizen of the Canary Islands, he feels "proud" of the role that police officers have been playing in the Archipelago.

He accused those who "in an indecent way" speak in the Canary Islands that the airports are "a sieve" of being "false", since he affirmed that the Colombians with whom this operation began "entered through the airports and from the moment of their entry into the Canary Islands, the police services alerted of the presence of these people and they were followed."

In José Segura's opinion, in the Islands "there is no sieve, but a desire to weaken, deteriorate and defame the state security forces" that play an effective role in the Canary Islands. He argued that among several political forces there is a certain tendency to "hide a reality of commitment" of the State in the fight against organized crime, against the mafias that traffic in human beings and those that do so with drugs.
