The Government Delegate in the Canary Islands, José Segura, assured

yesterday that the commitment he made to increase the staff of the National Police and the Civil Guard in the Islands "is practically fulfilled".

Segura, who made these statements at the welcome ceremony for the new 100 police officers who are joining the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife for internships, recalled that just as in the stage of the central government of the Popular Party (PP) there was an "imbalance year after year" of personnel from the State Security forces in the Islands, since the arrival of the PSOE to the central Executive, a balance has been achieved that, at present, "is maintained".

Segura clarified that this balance has been maintained "from a rational perspective, without implying attending to the differentiated singularity of each

of the islands", as he argued that the needs of Fuerteventura are not the same as those of La Palma. The Government Delegate in the Canary Islands, who was at the event accompanied by the Deputy Government Delegate, Carlos González Segura, and the Police Commissioner of the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Joaquín Rubiales, also highlighted that "there is no precedent" for 200 police officers

nationals arrive in the Canary Community.

José Segura was pleased that the first phase of the Comprehensive Security Plan for the Canary Islands has been completed, while he announced that it will be submitted to a debate in the Ministry of the Interior and then to another debate, in which all local, island and regional entities will participate, as well as social groups from the Islands.

In this line, he recalled that this Plan includes a control of

private security companies, actions to develop emergency plans in the ports and airports of the Canary Islands, the optimization of resources of the different bodies and cooperation with local police, among others. José Segura wanted to make it clear that these are the

lines of work that "are not a dogma" and that will be

outlined in the coming months.
