Marcos Páez has presented his "provisional" resignation as Fisheries Councilor, although this decision has not reduced the political tension caused by the complaint filed against him for illegally collecting limpets. The former councilor has left the Cabildo, but he has done so assuring that the Socialist Party has carried out "a scavenging persecution" against him, and accusing Carlos Espino of delaying the processing of the complaint.
Now, the Environment Councilor himself responds to these criticisms and assures that the complaint against Marcos Páez is being processed like any other document of this type and "with the same speed". The Environment Councilor has also stated that if he had processed the complaint more quickly because he was the Fisheries Councilor, "now Marcos would be hiding behind a possible persecution".
The head of the Environment Area has also assured that the complaint filed against Marcos Páez "has already left the service to be registered in the Casa Cabildo and from there it will be given the final exit to the Deputy Ministry of Fisheries of the Government of the Canary Islands". Despite this, Marcos Páez assures that it has not yet been processed because "Carlos Espino has it".
For the former Fisheries Councilor, the PSOE has had a very bad attitude during these days and accuses them of promoting a scavenging persecution against him. Carlos Espino has responded to these statements arguing that what is scavenging is "trying to defend oneself by preying on Cabildo officials, committing the absurdity of accusing an official of falsifying a public document such as a complaint"
Marcos already defended his innocence from the beginning, arguing that the complaint was false. For Espino, this situation is regrettable since he is doubting the presumption of veracity of the Environment technicians. "Without kicking a man when he's down, it is much more convenient for him to assume the consequences of his mistake and not try to sow doubts among others". Regarding another of Páez's complaints, who maintains that he is in a defenseless situation because he does not even have a copy of the complaint, Espino is also forceful: "If he does not have a copy of the complaint it is because when the surveillance boat arrived, he ran away, he fled"
Regarding the provisional resignation presented by Páez, the Socialist Party affirms that they have received it "with great satisfaction since it was something that the Socialist Party had requested", although they also clarify that they think that "this could have happened sooner".
