Armando Santana, Councilor of the Mixed Group in the Cabildo of Lanzarote, has urged the island's Government to demand from the Government of Spain the implementation of a new management model for the César Manrique Airport, one of the most profitable airports in AENA. However, despite its high performance, "the airport has received a significantly low investment from this commercial company."

Santana emphasizes "the need to create an Airport Authority in Lanzarote, similar to the Port Authority of the Port of La Luz and Las Palmas." This new entity would allow the Cabildo of Lanzarote to play a fundamental role in monitoring and controlling the activities and management of the airport, thus ensuring that the interests of the island are protected.

“It is unacceptable that an airport with the potential and profitability of César Manrique does not receive the necessary investments to improve its facilities and services.” “The creation of an Airport Authority is essential for the Cabildo of Lanzarote to have an active role in the management of this crucial infrastructure for our economy and development,” declares Santana.

The councilor emphasizes that "with a more adequate management model, the economic development of Lanzarote could be further enhanced, benefiting the entire island."

In this way, Santana calls on all sectors and the population of Lanzarote to support this initiative, which should be led by the president of the Cabildo and parliamentarian of the Canary Islands, Oswaldo Betancort, since islands like Mallorca, Menorca, and Gran Canaria have been working for some time in their administrations to achieve an Airport Authority for their territories.

The island condition of Lanzarote implies that our ports and airports have a strategic importance as they are the only means of communication in the traffic of passengers and goods between the island and the rest of the world. The participation of this Airport Authority would be formed by local governments, social and economic agents, thus achieving better management in all operational issues and others that directly affect the interests of the people of Lanzarote.
