The San Bartolomé City Council, through the Department of Education, has launched its first Educational Conference, a meeting and reflection forum where students and teachers will work together on proposals to improve the municipality, in a pioneering initiative that has not been carried out to date by any local government team.

As a result of these conferences, the first Municipal Children's Council will be created, a body that will allow the youngest to send their concerns and suggestions directly to the corporation so that they are taken into account when making decisions until the end of the municipal mandate.

The process has begun with the first visits of 4th grade primary school students from two of the schools in San Bartolomé to continue within a week with another two CEIPs, and, from then on, a selection of students will be chosen to be part of the First Municipal Children's Council.

The mayor of San Bartolomé, Isidro Pérez, points out that in this way they will work in schools when studying strategies and proposals that they can formulate to improve the municipality and that they can present in this project. "If we want to grow as a society, we must start with active listening, giving a voice to those who see their environment with different eyes and from whom we must learn to understand that everything is possible with predisposition," Pérez emphasizes.

The Councilor for Education, Estefanía Luzardo, points out that, "once these phases have begun, we will work with the students and the Municipal School Council will meet to coordinate this strategy and present, definitively, the Municipal Children's Council, which will surely be a model to export in primary education in other parts of the island."

Its mission will be to channel proposals on improvements in the municipality and transfer them to the City Council, with the aim that some of them can materialize within a period of two years.

With this project, the San Bartolomé City Council reinforces its commitment to education and citizen participation, promoting spaces where young people can express themselves and be an active part of the development of the municipality.
