The San Bartolomé City Council has received the preliminary draft for the transformation of the new Playa Honda thoroughfare, the current LZ-2, which aims to "solve the town's historical problem regarding the existing separation between the residential and commercial areas," the Council reports.
The proposal, sent by the Government of the Canary Islands, is the first phase to carry out the project, which establishes the technical design criteria, especially those related to layout, drainage, design, and traffic, among others, they comment.
With this preliminary draft, the current LZ-2 would be transformed into an urban thoroughfare, with the aim of generating permeability of soft modes between the residential, commercial, and industrial centers of Playa Honda. All of this is oriented to the benefit of residents and activities, to improve commercial relations.
Furthermore, this proposal seeks to improve traffic flow, which has so far been subject to congestion during peak hours due to traffic between the municipality of Arrecife and the tourist centers in the south of the Island, where a significant portion of employment for the island's population is concentrated.
The object of the project also includes an infrastructure that enhances connectivity between Playa Honda and Arrecife, improving mobility in various modes of transport, as well as greater safety and comfort in this important section of the island's network.
This transformation proposal is also based on avoiding the transit of heavy vehicles through the core of the LZ-2 and the qualitative and quantitative improvement of the quality of urban public spaces.
