The Cabildo of Lanzarote and the town councils of San Bartolomé, Tinajo, Yaiza, Tías and Teguise have agreed in a meeting held this Friday on the "need and importance" of continuing with the Consortium for the Defense and Promotion of La Geria. Specifically, the town councils of San Bartolomé and Tinajo, which had resolved to return the loan from the State Financial Fund for the Modernization of Tourism Infrastructure (FOMIT), will clarify in their respective plenary sessions their "unequivocal will to remain within the Consortium".

This has been conveyed by the Cabildo of Lanzarote in a statement, in which it assures that these two town councils have "committed" before the president, Pedro San Ginés, to make this statement. "They have clarified that in reality the only objective was to return these funds," the Cabildo pointed out.

The president of the Cabildo has also explained that "it is mandatory to return these loans" granted to the town councils of San Bartolomé, Tinajo and Yaiza as the "deadlines for the execution of the projects" have expired. "This is compounded by the economic incapacity of the municipal councils to meet the percentage of the monthly installment of the repayment of said credit," he said. It is for this reason, according to San Ginés, that the Consortium of La Geria "has been forced to renounce the subrogation of the loan granted".

"In any case, this would never have freed the town councils from assuming the proportional part that would correspond to them according to the representation they hold in the entity," the president clarified.
