The People's Party candidate for Mayor of Teguise, Rita Hernández, regrets that the City Council has not obtained direct funding from any of the lines of action of the Next Generation European Funds aimed at local entities within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.
“The fact that we are not going to receive a single euro of extra funding is undoubtedly very bad news for the municipality considering the many and serious deficiencies that our tourist town, Costa Teguise, and the rest of the rural areas present,” says Rita Hernández. “Without a doubt, it is an important opportunity that Teguise has missed to modernize and improve the quality of its services.”
Hernández believes that “the municipal government has lost the illusion and ambition necessary to put on the table projects that really represent a substantial advance in economic matters, infrastructure or services.” “We have been in a state of lethargy for almost two terms, where management focuses on day-to-day matters but where actions aimed at renovating public spaces in the tourist area or improving the quality of our towns are lacking,” she points out.
The Popular Party argues that a municipality like Teguise has sufficient entity to have projects already drafted and ready for which to request funding from other administrations. In this sense, the candidate expresses her doubts about whether the local government actually submitted any project to the call. “For the moment, an explanation from the government is missing, which has not even informed about the initiatives proposed to the aforementioned funds.”
