Reyes fails to pass the 2007 budget and CC asks him to submit to a vote of confidence

Because practically all the investments have been made and all the expenses have been assumed a month before the end of 2007, CC has voted no to the budgets for the expiring year. And for these reasons and for considering that budgets that dedicate 70% to current expenses and that "has not complied with the warnings made by the Court of Auditors" are inadmissible, according to councilor Olivia Cedrés, the PSOE has also voted against, in addition to the group of representatives of the PIL.

Thus, José Francisco Reyes and his councilors have not obtained the support of the Plenary and the immediate consequence for the Canarian Coalition is that the mayor will have to submit to a "vote of confidence". This is an extraordinary instrument of the Plenary to control the municipal government. What Leonardo Rodríguez and his two party colleagues in the City Council intend is to gather the support of the four representatives of the PIL to "remove José Francisco from the mayor's office", he says.

In this way, José Francisco Reyes would be obliged to submit to the "vote of confidence" that he himself must raise, as specified in the Organic Regulations of the Plenary of the City Council, for not having managed to pass the annual budget, which for the moment remains extended.

The mayor should convene an extraordinary plenary session and see if he has the necessary support to continue presiding over the Municipal Corporation and if not, he will have to leave the mayor's office, explained the councilor in the opposition.
