The Podemos group in the Cabildo of Lanzarote considers that the strike of the Tourist Centers is the result "of the attitude of contempt shown at all times by the Minister of Tourism, Echedey Eugenio, both towards the workers and towards the Centers of Art, Culture and Tourism themselves." In this sense, it denounces "the arrogance and bad manners shown by Eugenio in the board of directors of the EPEL on July 14, in which he was already warned of the possibility that a strike would be called in the Centers".
For the purple formation, "allowing the entry of visitors without any type of control or surveillance is another example of the very little respect of the management towards the Tourist Centers." "We are talking about our most valuable heritage, which once again is at risk due to the recklessness of the Minister of Tourism and the CEO of the Centers," he warns.
"The political immaturity of the minister and the lack of minimal respect towards the workers are behind the chaos that is being experienced in the Centers. You cannot govern thinking that any criticism or demand aims to cause political damage, and Coalición Canaria seems to have recurring nightmares in this line. They are not capable of accepting that they may be wrong, and that politically speaking is a danger," says the spokesman for Podemos in the Cabildo, Carlos Meca.
The Centers, "managed as simple money-making machines"
"The reasons for the strike are well known and we have been denouncing them for two years. Breaches of the agreement, abuse of hiring through temporary employment agencies and now even the breach of a court ruling, but also the contempt for the natural and cultural heritage that the Centers represent by the management, allowing the rental for weddings of spaces such as the Jameos del Agua or the celebration of electronic music concerts without taking into account the damage that can be caused to a unique place in the world," says Meca.
For the Podemos councilor in the Cabildo, "we are lucky that the workers of the Centers continue to do an invaluable job in the defense of our heritage and have been denouncing the progressive deterioration of the Centers for many years. It is undeniable today that the Centers are being managed as simple money-making machines, and that has consequences both for the conservation of the spaces and in terms of the working conditions of the workers."
"The minister is very concerned about the image of the Centers and the external impact when we point out the links of Marina Rubicón and the underwater museum with insular corruption, but it seems that in the event of a strike in the Centers he is not worried about that image at all. All that remains is for Eugenio to stop treating the workers as enemies in a war that only exists in his head. Once that happens, it will be much easier to resolve this conflict," says Meca.
