The president of the Podemos Canarias Parliamentary Group, María del Río, has denounced that what is happening with the Lanzarote Insular Hospital "is the chronicle of a repeated lie, which is set in motion in the form of false promises just a little before there are elections".

"Since 1998 we have been putting up with how they sell smoke with the Insular Hospital in each electoral process, and the latest has been the statements by the president of the Cabildo, Pedro San Ginés, assuring that the Government of the Canary Islands will assume the management of the center at the beginning of 2018, something that does not appear in any budget item", Del Río affirmed after the appearance of the Minister of Health, José Manuel Baltar, in which he avoided giving a date.

Del Río, who expressly summoned the Minister to Parliament to explain his health projects in Lanzarote, recalls that the Social Table for the Improvement of Health in Lanzarote and La Graciosa considers that the Ministry "sells more of a pending management to be carried out, than carried out". "When we talk about what is going to be done and it is not done, it generates distrust, and people have every right to express their discontent, especially when we have been waiting for solutions to problems that have become chronic for many years", he insists.

"You can't wait a year for a biopsy"

Thus, he affirms that the Canarian Health Service "has a vision very far from reality", which culminates "in a lack of prevention to attend to numerous diseases and provide optimal services to citizens. Furthermore, according to Del Río, "patients are not informed about the waiting lists, which are delayed in time from six months to a year because there is not enough staff". "You can't wait a year for a biopsy in urology. Poor care can mean death in many cases", denounces the president of the Podemos Parliamentary Group.

In this sense, María del Río points out that "there is also no solution to the demand for increased hours in care for people affected in their mental health nor" is there news of the latest generation material obtained through the donation of a well-known foundation". Furthermore, De Río points out that "we have the worst budget per health card, as it does not exceed 800 euros when the average in the Canary Islands is higher than 1,200 euros and in the best-valued communities it is 1,600 euros". "And there are no signs in the 2018 Budgets that this situation is going to change", he concludes.
