The island director of the State Administration in Spain, Pedro Viera, received a representation of the Naval Command of Las Palmas this Wednesday morning. Specifically, the Captain of Ships, Ricardo López, the Naval Commander of Las Palmas and Admiral of the Naval Command of the Canary Islands, Santiago de Coll Satruela, and Manuel Prieto García, Commander of the Naval Aid Station of the Canary Islands, visited the headquarters of the Island Directorate of the Government.

During the meeting, the intention of the admiral of the Canary Islands Naval Command to "reinforce the naval Aid Stations in the Canary Islands, and in particular that of Lanzarote" was reported. According to Viera, the Naval Command of Las Palmas also expressed its willingness to collaborate with the Civil Guard in missions related to the migratory phenomenon that is experienced in the Canary Islands, given that they already carry out missions in the Gulf of Guinea and in the Strait of Gibraltar.

Viera has stressed that "the collaboration between the Island Directorate of the Government and the Naval Command of Las Palmas is established as a fundamental pillar for the development and security of the islands, underlining the importance of inter-institutional cooperation for the benefit of the citizens of Lanzarote."

Pedro Viera reported during the meeting that, at present, the Naval Command of Las Palmas has a total of 750 troops, of which 20% are women, thus reflecting a commitment to gender equality in its ranks. In addition, he highlighted the presence of 4 ocean-going vessels under the command of the Command, demonstrating the response capacity and operational deployment of the Navy in the region.
