Last Saturday, Pedro Viera, Insular Director of the General State Administration in Lanzarote, held an institutional meeting with Etienne de Pertier, a member of the Representation of the European Commission in Spain and a leading expert in immigration matters. The meeting, held at the headquarters of the Insular Directorate, focused on analyzing the current situation of migratory flows on the island and the challenges posed by its strategic position in the Atlantic.

During the meeting, fundamental issues such as humanitarian management, coordination between administrations, and the support that the European Union provides to territories such as Lanzarote, which play a crucial role in the reception of migrants, were addressed.

Pedro Viera highlighted the importance of strengthening collaboration with European institutions to guarantee sufficient resources, optimize reception protocols, and strengthen inter-institutional cooperation. “The support of the European Union is essential to face migratory challenges efficiently and in solidarity. Lanzarote needs coordinated responses that respect human rights and the dignity of people, while strengthening reception mechanisms,” said the Insular Director.

For his part, Etienne de Pertier positively valued "the willingness to dialogue and highlighted the commitment of the European Commission to the management of migration in peripheral regions such as Lanzarote, highlighting its role as the southern border of Europe."

This meeting is in line with the commitment of the General State Administration in Lanzarote and the European Union to work together in the search for comprehensive solutions to migratory challenges, consolidating a relationship that is based on cooperation and mutual respect.
