Meeting with Telefónica in San Bartolomé to resolve telecommunications problems

The San Bartolomé City Council met last Friday, April 11, with Telefónica, to study the terms of a collaboration framework agreement and thus resolve the numerous problems affecting telecommunications in the municipality. This is a widespread complaint among residents of all urban centers of San Bartolomé.

Thus, Marcial Martín, mayor of the municipality, and the Councilor for New Technologies, José Antonio González Hernández, met with Telefónica España, represented by Juan Carlos Cameán Castellano and Óscar Torres Navarro. Martín emphasized "the need to improve the proper maintenance of the networks, such as the existing wiring, and its deficiencies, provide greater and better ADSL coverage to the entire municipality, and improve the service to residents, which is currently channeled through a telematic service, which is 1004".

With the agreement that is expected to be signed shortly, according to the City Council, the aim is to establish the necessary cooperation framework to analyze and develop different aspects. Within a period not exceeding three months, both parties must define their needs and priorities regarding these issues.

Among the different issues to be addressed are the undergrounding of overhead lines and environmental impact, through the use of ongoing or future works, as well as global agreements for the construction of advanced telecommunications infrastructures through external contributions.

It also includes, among others, possible expansions of the transport capacity of the telecommunications network within the island; deployments of wireless broadband networks for libraries, municipal dependencies, etc.; deployment of the Comprehensive Cardioprotection System; analysis of telecommunications and tele-emergency services for women in situations of abuse (GPS); and the study and development of a plan to improve telecommunications infrastructures for mobile telephony and 3G technology services, in accordance with the new Municipal Ordinance and considering the visual and environmental impact through mimetic solutions.
