A group of neighbors from Puerto del Carmen met this Tuesday with the mayor of Tías, the popular Francisco Hernández, to convey their concern about a fence installed on August 6 by the company McDonalds next to its Matagorda establishment, which prevents the entry of any vehicle on Marte street from 01:00 in the morning to 11:00 in the morning.

"With the installation of the fence by the company, more than 80 neighbors who have access to their homes through Marte street have been affected, some of them with mobility problems and illnesses, who frequently need an ambulance to pick them up at their homes", they explain in a statement. In addition, the neighbors told the mayor that "if a fire were to occur at night, the fire truck would not be able to access the homes".

Installed without a license "thanks to the Land Law", according to the mayor

In the meeting, which was also attended by the councilor and spokesperson for Podemos in the Cabildo, Carlos Meca, and the councilor of the purple formation in the municipality, Nicolás Saavedra, the mayor told them that there are "legal doubts" about the ownership of Marte street. According to them, what he told them is that it "does not appear as a street" in the General Plan, despite being paved for decades.

Regarding the procedure followed by the McDonalds company to install the fence, according to Hernández, the company adhered to the provisions of the new Land Law and limited itself to notifying the installation of the fence and waiting 15 days, in which the City Council did not respond to its request. "Apparently the Land Law allows them to start the installation works only with that prior communication, and without the City Council having granted the permit", affirm the neighbors that the mayor told them.

According to a press release, the mayor pledged to negotiate "as soon as possible" with McDonalds for the removal of the fence and to request "all technical and legal reports from the City Council officials to elucidate the ownership of Marte street".
