The Senate has approved this Thursday the project by which the Air Navigation Law is modified, with the abstention of the Popular Group. The Upper House has given the green light to the text, as it was sent by the Congress of Deputies.

The socialist senator for Lanzarote, Marcos Hernández, has highlighted that the aforementioned approved law protects the airport system of the Canary Islands and, in this sense, has criticized the "irresponsible and senseless" position of the Popular Group that, through a series of amendments, "has endangered the viability of the air navigation system of the Canary community".

Marcos Hernández has defended the content of the new approved regulation and has stated, on the other hand, that it directly affects the fourth runway of the Barajas airport, which has meant "the creation of 47,000 jobs, which will exceed 122,000 when it is fully operational and an investment of 6,000 million euros".

Hernández also pointed out that the Air Navigation Law guarantees the agreement between Iberia and British Airways, avoids the collapse of the airport system and guarantees acoustic protection. The new law "will guarantee both the acoustic quality of the neighbors near the airports, as well as the activity generated by these facilities", he said. In this way, "the soundproofing of buildings near airports, as well as their structures, will be improved, with action plans charged to Aena".

Likewise, Marcos Hernández has indicated that "the text advances by ten years the obligation to implement corrective measures for noise, as well as action plans, in large Spanish airports". In this way, he added, "it should be noted that, according to state regulations on noise, these measures could be carried out until December 31, 2020. With the regulatory changes, the deadline is reduced to six months for airports that exceed 250,000 movements, that is, Barajas and El Prat".
