The general secretary of the PSC Lanzarote, Manuel Fajardo, referred to the possible rapprochement of the Canarian Coalition to the Party of Independents of Lanzarote in order to achieve some unity in Canarian nationalism to compete in the next general elections. For Fajardo, CC "does not represent any type of nationalism" and went further, assuring that "there are few nationalists of race on this island, maybe some within the PNC."

He doubted that the PIL, the PSC's government partner in the Cabildo and four town councils, would accept the possible proposals of the party presided over by Torres Stinga, when "a few months ago they tried to keep the PIL, taking advantage of Dimas Martín's situation and believing that the party was going to disappear." Not without irony, Manuel Fajardo pointed out that Paulino Rivero's group "would have to increase the number of positions in the Government of the Canary Islands."

These were Manuel Fajardo's assessments in his appearance on the occasion of the first Socialist Island Executive after the summer break, held this Thursday night. During the executive meeting, they discussed several points, including the steps that the socialist formation in Lanzarote must take to reach the next extraordinary congress of the PSC in which Juan Fernando López Aguilar will replace Juan Carlos Alemán as head of the General Secretariat of the party in the Canary Islands. A handover that Fajardo described as "calm" thanks to Alemán's "high-mindedness, in favor of the general interests of the party."

The members of the island's local groups will elect the delegates who will attend the congress. Arrecife, led by a management team after the dissolution of its executive at the beginning of the year, will also hold its corresponding assembly. The party is waiting for the socialist bodies in Madrid to confirm the censuses of each group, in order to convene the assemblies.

Canarian parliamentarians meet in Lanzarote

Socialists from all over the Canary Islands with seats in the regional Parliament will fly to Lanzarote on September 21 and 22 to attend the party's Parliamentary Days, where they will debate possible projects to be presented in the regional chamber, in addition to establishing Lanzarote's section in the 2008 general budget, which until now, according to Fajardo "has been marginalized." The parliamentarians also plan to meet with social groups on the island and with the mayors.

Recover the barracks

On the PSC's work agenda, according to Manuel Fajardo, is the recovery of the land of the barracks, located on García Escámez street in Arrecife. This is what the deputy mayor of the capital, Antonio Hernández, requested a few days ago, who considered it necessary for the State to cede this land to locate the future university campus of Lanzarote, as compensation for the foreseeable construction of an immigration detention center on the Island. Fajardo did not want to advance in what phase the negotiation with the State is to recover the barracks but announced that they are "already working on it" because the trend in all cities is to "make the barracks disappear from the center of the cities because they have no reason to be."
