The prosecutor considers that Reyes incurred in a crime of urban planning prevarication, for which he requested 10 years of disqualification and a fine. But during the oral hearing, he decided to raise his request, also demanding two years in prison for the former mayor of Yaiza. For his part, and in response to questions from the Prosecutor's Office, José Francisco Reyes has stated that his role was limited to signing the documents brought to him by the technicians.
This is the first time that the southern mayor has been criminally prosecuted and following a complaint from the Public Prosecutor's Office, since although other times - as in the famous case of the wall - he has been involved in criminal proceedings, it was in the preliminary investigation phase. This time, on the contrary, he must submit to oral trial at the request of the Environmental Prosecutor's Office, which is the only party that brings the accusation in this procedure.
This will probably be the first of the trials that the former mayor of Yaiza will have to face this year, since it should be remembered that the Public Prosecutor's Office requested 9 years of disqualification for Reyes in addition to fines for another concession of licenses on rustic land, in this case in Femés.
In addition, Reyes is being investigated for two other cases. One is linked to the granting of the license for the thousand homes in Costa Roja, which was uncovered by La Voz de Lanzarote, and another for the massive granting of illegal tourist licenses in Playa Blanca.
