The mayor of Tinajo, Jesús Machín, has publicly denounced what he considers "coercion and humiliation" by the General Directorate of Coasts against the municipality's campers.

Machín points out that "notices are being sent" to campers who enjoy the coastline in some parts of Tinajo, such as Las Malvas, La Santa or La Isleta, to leave the place under threat of a fine.

He assures that in several cases there is an attempt to remove campers from the public maritime-terrestrial domain who are not within that limit and that, in the case of La Santa, the demarcation that has not yet been definitively approved is taken as a reference.

The mayor considers that "humble people do not bother in the public domain" and that they have the right to enjoy the coast. "This island is a limited territory, they have kicked us out of the southern area and now they want to kick us out of the northern area," he laments.

ZAPATERO

Machín points out that while the President of the Government, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, enjoys his vacations in a house within the public domain, La Mareta, "the humble people of Lanzarote cannot enjoy the coast as they have done all their lives.

"I know that I am alone in this matter and that they do not give me solutions, but we will have to hold a demonstration to defend the people of Lanzarote," says the mayor, who asks for solutions from September onwards "so that campers are not abused."
