The workers of the home care service of Arrecife "have begun to suffer reprisals from the company Manuel Aboy e Hijos SL Grupo Moyma", after the protests carried out in recent days to demand the payment of their payrolls. This has been assured by Intersindical Canaria, which has sent a new statement denouncing the situation these workers are experiencing.
According to the union, after the latest rallies they staged and the strike notice, the workers have begun to receive letters from the company informing them of a sanction of suspension of employment and salary for one day each. This same letter would have even reached employees who "had requested permission to attend a medical consultation", according to Intersindical Canaria.
The company has informed the workers that it was the City Council of Arrecife, on whom the service depends, who complained that users have been left unattended. "The workers are outraged by the treatment they are receiving," says the union, which stresses that "it cannot allow workers who claim their rights, including the right to receive a salary for doing a job, to be penalized."
Currently, according to the City Council, work is being done on the specifications to re-tender this service and award it to a new company, after the problems that have occurred with the current contractor. Meanwhile, Grupo Moyma continues to take care of home care. According to the workers, since the arrival of this company there have been constant delays in the payment of payrolls.
