The Government of the Canary Islands has now announced that the process for the integration of the Island Hospital into the network of public centers of the Canary Islands Health Service (SCS) will be completed "after this summer", after last November the Cabildo assured that it would be at the beginning of 2018.
From the regional Executive they point out that the Island Council already has a draft agreement to facilitate the assimilation of the categories for those professionals who opt for voluntary integration under the conditions of the SCS statutory personnel.
With this process, the SCS seeks to maintain the current activity of the center, once the integration is done, in such a way that the following services of Geriatrics continue to function, among others, with its Acute and short-stay Hospitalization Unit, the Geriatrics Day Hospital, Geriatrics External Consultations and Geriatric Home Care; the external consultations of Otorhinolaryngology and Pediatrics and family planning; and the complementary services of Pharmacy, Laboratory and Radiodiagnosis.
More professionals for Lanzarote
On the other hand, the regional Executive highlights that, during 2017, the Lanzarote Health Services Management has managed to expand the staff of health professionals who provide service in the Primary Care area of Lanzarote, with the incorporation of a total of eight doctors, nine nurses and a midwife who perform their functions in the different basic health areas. Thus, two Family Care units have been launched, one in the Titerroy Health Center and another in the Playa Honda Local Clinic, each composed of a family doctor and a nurse.
Professionals have also been incorporated to launch the Family Care Unit (UAF) of Pediatrics in the Costa Teguise Local Clinic, the UAF of the Playa Blanca Health Center, a nurse in the Yaiza Local Clinic, and a midwife for the Emergency service and four doctors and four nurses for the Basic Health Zone of Yaiza-Playa Blanca.
Regarding the increase of professionals in Specialized Care, in 2017 the staff was expanded with seven doctors and two nurses, who joined the Pharmacy Service -a doctor and a nurse-, in addition to specialists in the services of Cardiology, Ophthalmology, Psychiatry, Occupational Medicine, two in Otorhinolaryngology, and a nurse assigned to the consultations of Cardiology and Neurology.
On the other hand, the Lanzarote Health Services Management plans to launch a Hemodynamics Unit at the Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital, a project that is expected to be operational before the summer of 2018, as announced by the President of the Government, Fernando Clavijo, this Thursday.
Improvements in infrastructures
On the other hand, the Government of the Canary Islands reiterates that the Ministry of Health has proceeded to contract the drafting of the construction project of the multi-purpose building of the Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital, which includes the creation of a bunker for radiotherapy and its supports to improve the care provided to the population with oncological diseases, as well as a new space for management and logistics of the health center.
The new oncology area will have an approximate area of 200 square meters and will have an independent access, waiting room for patients and administrative support area, two consultations, a bunker for radiotherapy with control area and the corresponding technical supports. In addition, with the new building, closed communications will be developed between the new structure and the main hospital building.
It is also pointed out that the SCS is carrying out the construction works of the new Tinajo Local Clinic, for an amount of 744,841 euros, which is located on a plot of 1,261 square meters that has been ceded by the City Council and that will replace the current clinic in the town.
This new center will have an area of 650 square meters, distributed in an admission area, administration and archive of clinical records, sample collection room, Pediatrics area with two consultations, waiting room and toilet, two adult Nursing consultations, two Family Medicine consultations, a multipurpose consultation, waiting rooms and toilets, treatment and emergency room, staff changing rooms, warehouses and technical rooms. "It is expected that the works will be completed in the second quarter of 2018, when the process of legalization of its facilities will begin and it will be equipped", they point out from the Government of the Canary Islands.
Regarding the new clinic of Costa Teguise, at this moment the procedure for the awarding of the works is being concluded, so it is expected that the actions can be awarded next February. This is a health infrastructure that will replace the current building of the Local Clinic that is located in premises rented by the City Council and conditioned by the SCS. From the first moment this situation was considered temporary, since, although the aforementioned premises meet adequate conditions for health care, they have an important limitation for the implementation of new activities and services and some difficulties for the mobilization of patients on a stretcher due to the lack of a stretcher elevator in the building.
