The Haría City Council and the Association for 'Defense against animal abuse of Lanzarote' (Ademal) held a first meeting this Friday with the Government group, with the aim of coordinating actions that "help guarantee animal welfare" in the municipality.

The meeting was attended by the mayor of Haría, Alfredo Villalba; the Councilor for Animal Welfare, Marcos Lemes; the Councilor for Security and Emergencies, Alberto de León; the president of the Association, Birgit Wenning, and the head of the Local Police of Haría, Félix Barrios.

The mayor Alfredo Villalba, has pointed out the "importance" of this first meeting for a "better coordination" between both institutions and the Local Police and to have the "experienced vision" of Ademal in matters as delicate as animal welfare.

Likewise, the Councilor for Animal Welfare, Marcos Lemes, thanked the Association for the "intention to strengthen ties" with the Consistory and the "predisposition" shown for the implementation of projects that contribute to the application of the new 'Animal Welfare Law'. The councilor has stressed the "commitment" of the city council to comply with the ordinance and regulations aimed at protecting animals.

For her part, Birgit Wenning valued “the transparency, closeness and desire to work” that they have demonstrated in relation to this area, expressing her "only intention to work for the rights of animals". In addition, the president has lamented that this “did not happen with the previous Government group” and has highlighted the “good understanding and communication” that she has maintained with Councilor Lemes from the first moment so that the work is "fluid and coordinated."
