"At this moment, the creation of an independent management body for the port of Arrecife is not possible, since this would generate new expenses, which, added to those of the port itself, make its funding impossible." This is what the Minister of Tourism of the Government of the Canary Islands, Manuel Fajardo Feo from Lanzarote, stated today, regarding the controversy unleashed in recent days about whether or not it is the opportune moment to raise this claim.
Fajardo Feo questioned the performance of the Port of Lanzarote and recalled that it currently generates an annual expense of almost 4 million euros, more than the resources that the port obtains in each fiscal year.
The councilor believes it is essential to first equip the port with the infrastructure necessary to ensure its self-financing. Fajardo Feo assured that when that happens "we will fight for the independent port authority", something that he says is in everyone's head.
