The Department of Public Works of the Cabildo of Lanzarote is currently working on the definition and planning of the island's road map and, specifically, on the north-south axis, which "would allow a more fluid reorganization of traffic" that runs from Órzola to Playa Blanca, as reported by Fabián Martín through a statement. Thus, the Cabildo proposes the construction of three ring roads that will run through the outskirts of the towns of Órzola, Tahíche, and Arrecife, despite the fact that the capital already has one. These three new roads would be outside the urban areas and, in the case of Órzola, according to the Cabildo, this would allow the pedestrianization of the town.
In this sense, according to the first island institution, this road that would run from Órzola and that would have these three ring roads would communicate with the LZ-40 of Puerto del Carmen, in Tías, which in turn, would undergo a doubling process. From there, the road would continue to Playa Blanca.
The Councilor of the Area, Fabián Martín, has met these days with the Road Service of the Government of the Canary Islands, technicians of Public Works of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and representatives of the construction business of the island to "improve the proposal of the Road Plan to be included in the Advance of the Island Plan of Territorial Planning (PIOT)", which is intended to be approved in the extraordinary plenary session next Tuesday. The document that will be presented on Tuesday in this plenary session will contemplate, approximately, according to Fabián Martín, "80 percent of the new road axis".
"The objective is to have the land reserves of the ring roads of Arrecife and Tahíche drafted so that once the document is approved they can be executed in a short period of time", Martín indicated.
Two in one
On the other hand, the Councilor of Public Works of the Cabildo has proposed the idea of "merging the two roads that lead to Playa Blanca, the old and the new, into one, doubled or simple". For the moment, this proposal is put on the table to submit it to debate and include it later in the Road Plan.
The Cabildo of Lanzarote that, according to what has been affirmed, will continue to claim the execution of the pending projects such as the doubling of the current ring road of Arrecife and the adaptation of the Mácher-Playa Quemada section, considers it a priority to "design and reflect in the next PIOT a road axis appropriate to the future of this island".
