The acting mayor of the municipality of Arrecife, Eva de Anta, and the provincial director of the Social Marine Institute (ISM) in Las Palmas, José Julián Suárez, signed this Tuesday, in the municipal offices, the Minutes of the meeting held in May to regularize the ownership of the 70 homes in Valterra in favor of the residents.
"This is a necessary step to speed up the procedure. It is the fastest solution, which achieves the common interest and, above all, the peace of mind of the residents of the homes", declared Eva de Anta, who has shown her "firm willingness" for the City Council to regularize the allocation to the residents.
According to the City Council, the minutes state that "given that the land on which the group is located was ceded free of charge by the Arrecife City Council to the ISM in 1951 and that the loans granted for the acquisition of the 70 homes have been fully amortized, it is proposed the free transfer of the properties to the Arrecife City Council".
The City Council will take charge of the allocation and the expenses derived
The Arrecife City Council affirms that it will take charge of the allocation of the homes to the possible beneficiaries and that it will cover the expenses and/or taxes derived from this procedure, if applicable. For this transfer, it indicates that it is necessary to enable it through a provision with the rank of Law.
According to information disseminated by the Government Delegation, "the 70 affected homes were built on land donated by the Arrecife City Council, financed by three canning companies, with the commitment on the part of these - through an agreement lasting forty years - that the homes would be awarded based on certain payment conditions to the workers of the canning companies themselves and to sea workers".
In this regard, it adds that the judicial process opened for the resolution of this conflict ended in 2017, with a ruling by the National Court by which the homes became the property of the Social Security assets.
