The deputy of the Canarian Nationalist Group, Cristina Calero, has asked the Minister of Education of the Government of the Canary Islands, Poli Suárez, in a parliamentary committee about the situation of the educational infrastructure of the IES Altavista in Lanzarote.
The nationalist deputy has been interested in the pending expansion project of this educational center located in Arrecife, specifically in the neighborhood that bears the same name. Calero recalled the "commitment" of the educational community of this center and the "learning" of the students "which even led them to win the Vicente Ferrer National Award", an award given by the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation in 2022 for their work to promote the participation of students for their development as a supportive, committed and global citizenship.
The nationalist deputy has stated that, despite having a teaching team that "strives for the teaching-learning process of its students, the IES Altavista has shortcomings and its infrastructure must adapt to its condition as a Secondary and Baccalaureate Education center." In this sense, she recalled that "the IES Altavista arises from the creation of the CIFP Zonzamas, welcoming secondary and baccalaureate students who came from the IES Zonzamas and settling in the space that housed the CEIP Mercedes Medina."
In addition, Calero has urged to "resume the roadmap and planning in terms of educational infrastructure" in Lanzarote "in order to respond to the need to adapt the spaces of this educational center"; Likewise, she has requested the Ministry of Education of the Government of the Canary Islands to address the "possible expansion of the IES Altavista through the creation of a classroom building."
For his part, the Minister of Education, Poli Suarez, has "committed" in parliamentary headquarters to visit the center on his next trip to Lanzarote and to "address the priorities" raised by the Lanzarote deputy, in addition to other issues such as the "adaptation of the court and elimination of asbestos."
