The councilor of Nueva Canarias in the Arrecife City Council, Armando Santana, has acknowledged his “discomfort” within the capital's government group after the entry of Coalición Canaria, and has publicly demanded a change from his partner.
“Since the entry of CC, we are under absolute stress every day. Things are happening that Nueva Canarias, and I personally, do not understand,” he questioned, citing among other things “the language” with which his colleagues attack other people, the criticisms he has received himself, and the lack of “dialogue” that he claims exists between the partners and with other administrations.
For this reason, he has publicly issued a warning on Radio Lanzarote - Onda Cero: “I am making it very clear, I feel very sorry for my electorate, even for Astrid Pérez herself and the PP colleagues, but either this changes radically, or they shouldn't count on me to continue in this government.”
"When someone is in an administration, they have to have sufficient level"
Santana states that he has already conveyed this concern to the mayor, and his intention is to also raise it at the Board of Spokespersons that they have convened this Wednesday “to clarify many things.”
“My colleague Eli Merino can tell you, my PP colleagues can also tell you, and I think we need to stop. There is still time for the electoral campaign and we cannot use the Arrecife City Council and the problems of the citizens of Arrecife, with a year and three months to go,” defends Santana.
The councilor has referred, among other things, to the harsh criticisms launched by CC and its spokesperson, Echedey Eugenio, to the Council of the Canarian Government that has delegated the elaboration of the Supplementary Planning Plan of Arrecife.
“When someone is in an administration like the Arrecife City Council, they have to have sufficient level to represent it. Using certain language against people who are trying to do their job in the best possible way, as is the case of Polo Díaz, those faults are unnecessary. And what I miss, and I am missing lately, is the dialogue and the meeting points between everyone. Starting with our government group and continuing with the relationships we can maintain with other administrations,” he maintains.
The "insults" he has received from Encarna Páez
In addition, he has also expressed his discomfort at the criticisms he himself has received from the Councilor for Festivities, Encarna Paéz, regarding his decision not to celebrate this year the Tapa Fair that marked the Daytime Carnival. “This week she insults me by saying that I have not done the Daytime Carnival because I did not feel like it, last week she called me a cheap populist,” laments the councilor, who continues to insist that the health circumstances are not right to celebrate that event.
“However, yesterday her technician asked me for a item, with money from Tourism, so that she could celebrate the carnivals and I have not put any objection. These are things that I do not understand and I am not going to enter this circus,” Santana stressed.
The councilor also wanted to make it clear that “within Coalición Canaria there are fantastic people”, but he does not include in that group some of his government colleagues or the councilor of the Cabildo Pedro San Ginés, who he considers “marks” the line that the party follows in the capital. “I have been characterized in these three years by shaking hands. I have tried to build. That scenario in which we were with the PSOE and PP was another, and now other actors have entered and I try to row in favor of the general interest,” says Santana, who remained in the government after the dismissal of the socialist councilors and the entry of CC, but now demands a change to continue.
