The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo, says she feels "grateful and very proud that the President of the Government of Spain has once again chosen Lanzarote to enjoy his summer vacations and face with the maximum guarantees the beginning of the new political course next September."

Corujo trusts that Pedro Sánchez and his family "can enjoy the tranquility, serenity, good weather, art, landscapes, culture, gastronomy and traditions that this island offers to visitors."

"The presence of the President of the Government for the third consecutive year in Lanzarote is a promotional campaign of incalculable value that has placed us on the front page of national and international media and that, at the same time, has allowed us to interact first-hand with Pedro Sánchez, to address issues of special interest and sensitivity for the island during the meeting we held at the First Island Institution," says María Dolores Corujo, who was accompanied by the President of the Government of the Canary Islands Ángel Víctor Torres.

In that meeting, Sánchez, Torres and Corujo highlighted the importance of the ERTES. "They were fundamental for the survival of the tourism sector during the months in which it was so threatened by the pandemic caused by the coronavirus," said the president, who also pointed out the importance and effect "of the direct aid worth 1,144 million euros that allowed small and medium-sized businesses in the tourism sector of the archipelago to cushion the impact of the fall in income, resist and face the recovery."

"The Canary Islands and Lanzarote are on the agenda of the Government of Spain," Corujo added after the meeting. "There is fluid communication, there is good harmony and there is a willingness and desire to work to solve the problems that affect this archipelago generated by the neglect of nationalist governments that are more effective than effective."

In local terms, during the meeting, Corujo wanted to convey her personal gratitude to the President of the Government of Spain for the boost given to the Valterra housing file, "which will allow its legitimate owners to have ownership of their homes after more than 30 years of struggle and lawsuits."

Regarding the future, the highest political representatives of the State, the archipelago and the island valued the measures contemplated in the Energy Saving Plan, defined by the Government in line with European guidelines "to face Putin's energy blackmail", and the arrival to the archipelago of 6,500 million euros corresponding to the autonomous financing system in the year 2023 and the Next Generation Funds of the European Union.
