The Canary Islands Coast Demarcation has denied the permit requested by the Haría City Council to celebrate the La Pamela festival, which was scheduled for Friday, August 18 in the Caletón Blanco area. Thus, the City Council has been forced to "postpone" the celebration of this event, although it assures that it will continue trying to obtain authorization and set a new date.
It should be remembered that last year, the City Council faced three files from the Seprona of the Civil Guard for holding that party without permission from Costas. As a result of these files, a sanction of 2,591 euros was imposed, which was notified last February. According to what the Consistory then alleged, the problem was that the authorization did not arrive on time. However, on this occasion the request was processed earlier and the response from Costas has been negative.
According to the City Council, the Demarcation maintains that the festival "affects the physical environment and its preservation" and points out that "due to its nature, it can have another location", outside the public maritime-terrestrial domain, "where it does not affect it". For its part, the Consistory affirms that it has already presented allegations, in which, among other things, it maintains that the Fiesta de la Pamela "has been celebrated in the Caletón Blanco space for 10 years" and that "it has an important popular roots, not only among the residents of Órzola, since they are celebrated within the Santa Rosa de Lima Festivals, but also at the island level, since it is considered one of the most popular and anticipated festivals of the summer".
"We are going to try by all means to keep the party going"
"From the City Council we are going to try by all means to maintain the celebration of the Fiesta de la Pamela, but it is necessary to have all the pertinent permits", explained the mayor of Haría, Marci Acuña. In addition, he pointed out that "the Consistory is awaiting the final report from the Coast Demarcation, after the allegations presented".
The allegation also states that Caletón Blanco "is the only space that has the surface area and ideal safety conditions to hold this event, since it is an open space, easy to control and does not affect public areas".
In any case, Acuña highlighted the "effort" of the Canary Islands Coast Demarcation, which "is working to find a solution". "Proof of this", according to the mayor, "was the technical meeting held this Thursday, in which the personnel of this body informed us that they are awaiting binding environmental reports from entities attached to the Ministry". In addition, he pointed out that the Department of the Environment of the Cabildo of Lanzarote has issued a favorable report, "stating that it does not consider that there is any affectation of the area, so it does not need special environmental protection".
