The Cabildo of Lanzarote, through the Department of Public Works, has completed the repair and maintenance work on the Wind Toy of Arrieta, a work by the artist César Manrique, which is now fully operational and at 100% of its capacity.

This intervention is part of the Maintenance and Conservation Plan for Public Works and Artistic Heritage on Roads, which seeks to guarantee the safety of citizens and preserve the cultural and artistic legacy of the island.

The works have consisted of repairing the piece that came off last April as a result of a windstorm, as well as a comprehensive review of the sculptural ensemble to reinforce its stability and durability.

“Today we can say that Arrieta's Wind Toy is once again shining in all its splendor. It was a commitment not only to the safety of citizens, but also to respect for the legacy of César Manrique, which is part of the identity of Lanzarote”, said the Councilor for Public Works, Jacobo Medina.

He also explained that the repair was carried out “with all guarantees”. “We looked for the moment of least wind incidence to undertake the repair safely, protecting at all times the personnel working in the area”, he added.

Finally, the councilor stressed the Cabildo's commitment “to the conservation of cultural heritage”.“With this type of action we continue to demonstrate that the artistic heritage of Lanzarote is not abandoned, but is cared for, preserved and valued. That is our commitment and we are going to continue to fulfill it”, he asserted.

The work, almost nine meters high and located in the roundabout at the entrance to Arrieta, was designed by Manrique as a tribute to the wind, one of the most characteristic elements of the island.
