"Sergio Machín and Mónica Álvarez do not represent the ideals of the Canarian Coalition, nor do they comply with the party's guidelines, nor do they express their disagreement within the CC bodies. That's enough!". The Nationalist Youth of Lanzarote have expressed themselves with such forcefulness, after the extraordinary plenary session held this Thursday in the Cabildo, in which the government group has once again been unable to approve educational emergency aid.

In a statement, the Youth question the "passivity of the Island Executive" of CC and demand the "immediate expulsion" of these two councilors from the party and their declaration as defectors. "These two people are meddling and putting their personal interests before the common good of the island," they argue in their press release, in which they point out that Machín and Álvarez "were elected public officials owing to some ideals that they betray today in the most repulsive way."

Regarding what happened this Thursday in the Cabildo Plenary, the Youth affirm that "pity" is "the first word" that comes to mind. "The episode this morning was not pleasant for anyone, when the opposition (PP and PIL) together with the immoral Sergio Machín and Mónica Álvarez, denied educational social emergency aid to 134 needy families in Lanzarote who meet the technical requirements to receive it."

"Cheap demagoguery"

The Youth of CC ask that citizens not be "deceived with cheap demagoguery, because all the members of the Cabildo plenary have the opportunity to vote so that these aids can be given and they have voted against the urgency." In their opinion, "both the opposition (PP and PIL) as well as Sergio Machín and Mónica Álvarez, are responsible for what they call misgovernment. They all talk about instability in the Cabildo, but they do not help to get the improvements for the citizens forward either. What are they missing?, to be part of the government?", they ask.

Furthermore, regarding the opposition's criticisms of the criteria established to deliver that money, the CC Youth refer to the difference between aid, which was what was going to be approved, and a scholarship. "A subsidy or scholarship necessarily needs some bases that have been put to public display for a certain time, and given the date we are on, that time is not available. The aid, on the other hand, can be given immediately supported by technical reports conditioned to some parameters established by the same professionals in the area. This is mainly the difference between a scholarship and aid," they emphasize.
