CC supports Miguel Martín to continue leading the San Bartolomé City Council

The Permanent Commission of CC was attended this Friday by Miguel Martín as a guest. He put his position to the consideration of the party, but says that they gave him "all the support and backing" to continue being mayor. Meanwhile, this Saturday the plenary session was held that approved the renewal of the credits that return liquidity to the council.

Mayor Miguel Martín put before the Permanent Committee of the Canarian Coalition this Friday his resignation from that position, but the party leadership gave him "full support and backing", so he will not resign, as the mayor himself stated on Saturday morning.

Martín participated in the Permanent Committee as a guest, since the central theme of that meeting was the political situation in San Bartolomé, where the mayor still does not have a majority. For this reason, the CC leadership urged him to form a majority "as soon as possible", although the nationalists are also willing to accept that he continues to govern in minority, according to Miguel Martín.

The mayor stated in this regard that he will continue "trying to seek support among those who are not currently in the Government Group", and surprisingly, he stated that part of his expectations are focused on who will be the new councilor of Citizen Alternative, Rosalía Dolores Díaz de León, whose act is still being processed to replace the resigning José Antonio González. "If necessary, I myself will go to Madrid to speed up that act and ensure that the councilor can join this group as soon as possible," the mayor said.

However, he admitted that he is not yet in a position to assure that he will regain the majority, although he said that it is something that does not worry him, and that if so, he is confident in achieving "specific support from whoever it may be to carry out things that are beneficial for the municipality."

In any case, he said that "under no circumstances" will he resign as mayor, ratifying what he had stated ten days ago on the program "Buenos días, Lanzarote" of Radio Lanzarote, in which he in turn presented himself again, and for the first time in this stage, as a member of the Canarian Coalition.

Miguel Martín assured this Saturday that he belongs "as an affiliate" to CC and that even, "in the

coming days he will have my card", while telling this media that he "never" had the affiliate card to the CCN, the party he claimed to belong to until three months ago, having even been one of the main speakers at an event of that political formation held at the end of the year in Güime.

Extraordinary plenary session

On the other hand, this Saturday an extraordinary plenary session was held in the San Bartolomé City Council in which the renewal of three credit policies with separate banking entities was approved, for a total of 3,200,000 euros. The renewal of the policies was approved with the votes of the eight members of the Government Group and the abstention of the eight who are still in the opposition.

In the course of the plenary session, the first since González's resignation, it became clear that at least for the moment, a possible understanding in that municipality between CC and PSOE is far off. The socialist councilor Antonio Rocío even called the Finance councilor, Javier Betancort, a "liar" during the session.

"You are a bad forecaster and a bad manager, and you are a liar because you said that the City Council was doing well and the debt was going down, and that is not true," Rocío said during the plenary session, addressing Betancort, whom he asked to resign, a request that he extended, once again, to the mayor.

The Finance councilor responded with equal or greater harshness: "The thief thinks everyone is like him", he told Rocío.

With the approval of the renewal of the credit policies, the Government Group of San Bartolomé considers that there will be no more problems to pay the staff and that therefore, the delay registered this month will not be repeated, for which the Finance councilor insisted on blaming the opposition for having refused to renew a credit policy with Banca March of 700,000 euros, which expired on February 1.

On the contrary, from the opposition they reiterate that all the blame lies with the Government Group, which "wastes money and does not pay the workers", according to Rocío in the plenary session, adding that "they are leading the City Council to bankruptcy."

For his part, the socialist Andrés Stinga also stated, in statements after the plenary session, that "the situation we experienced this month with the delay in payments to staff will happen again very soon, perhaps within two months", due to the "bad management" of the City Council.
