The spokesperson for the Nationalist Group in the Arrecife City Council, Echedey Eugenio, held a virtual meeting this Thursday with several media outlets on the island to present the 47 proposals, distributed in seven blocks, included within the program of measures proposed by CC-PNC to address the consequences of the Covid-19 health crisis.

The meeting - which included a breakfast that the party sent to the homes of the journalists who decided to accept it - also included the presence and participation of the nationalist councilors Jacobo Lemes, Maciot Cabrera, and David Toledo. During the videoconference, Eugenio announced that his party has requested the convocation of an extraordinary plenary session to analyze all of the aforementioned proposals, which he hopes will be held before June 2, "the legal deadline established by law."

"Throughout this process, we have done a responsible and constructive opposition work. We continue to extend our hand to all types of collaboration, because this is not about who scores the point, but about being able to anticipate what will come after this health crisis," Eugenio said.

Thus, the Nationalist Group has requested the inclusion in the agenda of this extraordinary session the appearance of the councilors responsible for the areas of Social Welfare, Health, and Intervention, María Jesús Tovar, Rosario González, and Cristina Duque, respectively, to explain and resolve the "doubts" regarding the measures established by their department in the Covid-19 crisis and in the state of Alarm approved and ratified by the State.

"Our goal is to contribute, providing some ideas that we believe can help alleviate the current situation and that we have developed after several meetings and contacts with different agents, groups, and associations in the capital," Eugenio reiterated.

Proposed measures

Among the proposals presented by CC are measures related to streamlining payments to suppliers, subsidies to SMEs and the self-employed, the development of a minor works plan, the launch of a macro employment plan, an urgent meeting with all the organizers of events that have not been able to or will not be able to be held, the revitalization of the cultural, sports, and leisure sector, delaying the payment of municipal taxes, the development and urgent approval of budgets adapted to the current situation, the splitting of debts, and the increase in IBI bonuses.

Likewise, emergency measures are requested for payments to NGOs, an increase in basic social aid, decentralization of municipal social services by locating at least one information and care point in each neighborhood, increased attention to the elderly, promotion of school support and to those families who suffer from the digital divide, working hand in hand with sports entities and clubs so that sport becomes a health and leisure alternative, etc.

"Our obligation now is to collaborate and contribute. There will be time to make assessments when we manage to get out of this situation," concluded Echedey Eugenio.
