"Policies to promote equality and eradicate discrimination and male violence have to return to the center of the political agenda in San Bartolomé." This is how forceful the councilor of the Canarian Coalition in San Bartolomé and former head of the Equality Area, Isabel Sosa, has been, after verifying that the Consistory chaired by the socialist Alexis Tejera has decided this year to dispense with the Conference for the eradication of gender violence and not celebrate what would be its fourth edition.

"At a crucial moment in which women's rights are threatened, once again, by the rise of an old discourse that intends to throw us back to the darkest years of machismo, the double standards of socialists when they talk about equality policies is revealed," laments the local secretary of CC in San Bartolomé.

In this way, Sosa accuses the PSOE mayor and his councilors of "acting for the gallery and evading the commitment acquired with the citizens to do everything in their power to generate action programs that serve to eradicate one of the biggest problems that exist in today's society."

"They worry about keeping a minute of silence for the victims of male violence in each plenary session, but nevertheless, they do not hesitate when it comes to getting rid of a conference organized in coordination with the institutes of Playa Honda and San Bartolomé and aimed at the youth of the municipality," explains the councilor.

It is for this reason that the Municipal Group of the Canarian Coalition will raise a motion so that in the next Ordinary Plenary Session of the San Bartolomé City Council, to be held on November 27, Equality policies in the municipality are promoted and the recovery of specific gender violence eradication conferences, aimed at the youngest, is promoted. Likewise, the nationalists demand the immediate implementation of the violet information points that were approved unanimously in the plenary session of the month of July, through a motion presented by Lanzarote en pie Sí Podemos.

"The objective of this initiative was that our neighbors could enjoy safe parties for them, but all the patron saint festivities of the municipality passed and these violet points did not appear anywhere," emphasizes Isabel Sosa who accuses the Socialist government Group of remaining inactive in the face of such an important issue.

"Unfortunately, this City Council can hardly boast of being involved in promoting equality between women and men in these first months of government," she stressed.
