CC-PNC regrets that the Cabildo "still does not clarify which area was responsible for authorizing or not the sports event"

Migdalia Machín: “We appreciate that the president recognizes that the situation created should never have occurred, but we would have liked that recognition not to have had to wait for the opposition to request an extraordinary plenary session”

Coalition Canaria has lamented that the government group of the Council "continues without clarifying which area was responsible for authorizing or not the sports event." For the nationalists, "the president of the Lanzarote Council, Mª Dolores Corujo, has assumed this Wednesday the responsibility of the institution in the non-celebration of the Isla de los Volcanes-Ciudad de Arrecife Land Rally Trophy, and has recognized the economic damage that this fact has caused both to the automotive world and to all the fans."

Thus, they point out from the formation, "the president has apologized during the celebration of the extraordinary plenary session, requested by CC-PNC and PP, to explain the complete file of the sports event that, according to what the Council had stated, endorsed the non-authorization of the sports event."

“We appreciate that the president recognizes that the situation created should never have occurred and that, as a Council, it should have responded much earlier, but we would have liked, both us and all the people who have been directly affected, that both the apologies and the recognition that things have not been done well by the institution, had arrived earlier and not wait for the opposition to request an extraordinary plenary session”, said the nationalist councilor Migdalia Machín.

Machín recalled the controversy generated and stated that the Nationalist Group missed that transparency that the island government presumes. “The Government Group lacked the capacity to react, it lacked to say clearly from the beginning where all the problems arose. There was a lot of confusion about which Area was responsible for the authorization and they dedicated themselves to blaming each other instead of explaining what had really happened and why they waited until the last minute to communicate the decision not to authorize the test.”

Finally, Machín hopes that the agreement reached with the Canarian and Spanish automobile federations will not suffer any setback and that the rest of the tests included in the sports calendar can be held, as well as recovering the Rally that was not held. And that the island's drivers and the island's reality are taken into account.

“We have said it from the beginning; it is necessary to seek reconciliation between the sports event and respect for the environment. It is what we have always defended”.
