The Local Committee of the Canarian Coalition in Yaiza has criticized that the "incompetent management" of the current government group and the mayor, Gladys Acuña, has caused "the loss of the planned money" for the execution of several projects in the town of Playa Blanca. The councilors of CC in the Yaiza City Council have pointed out that "it is a widespread practice of the Lanzarote political class to complain about the lack of economic resources that are allocated from other public administrations", but what "politicians do not usually say" is the "amount of money that is budgeted and then, due to the incompetence of the political class, is not executed".
According to CC, this is what has happened in the municipality of Yaiza. In this sense, the Local Committee has denounced that the government group, "the most expensive in municipal history, made up of 10 released councilors belonging to three political formations (PIL-PNL-PP)", "has not been able to or has not wanted to invest money that was planned in the general budgets of 2011 to carry out improvement works" in Playa Blanca. Specifically, on Correíllo street, as well as for the acquisition of furniture for the municipal library of the same town.
CC has assured that the investment planned for the improvement of Correíllo street had a budget of 60,000 euros. "The project is in the archives of the Municipal Technical Office, and the merchants and residents of the area have been suffering for years from the numerous problems that one of the busiest streets in the southern town has," CC stated.
Regarding the commissioning of the first Municipal Library of Playa Blanca, the purchase of furniture involved an investment of 6,000 euros and was the culmination of a project that began at popular request just a few years ago. Thus, the need to have a corner for culture in Playa Blanca led a group of residents to request the construction of a library.
CC has recalled that, after the transfer by the Ministry of Education of the Government of the Canary Islands of two classrooms located in the town center, known as the "Old School", the City Council at the beginning of this year undertook improvement works to turn it into a library for children and adults with two separate rooms. According to these same sources, once the works were completed, an agreement was reached with the association promoting the library for the transfer of the books they had been receiving from donations. "The City Council pledged to provide it with qualified personnel and to purchase the necessary furniture for its commissioning," said the Local Committee of CC.
However, CC has assured that these investments "have not been executed", despite the fact that the nationalist formation proposed to the municipal plenary session to intervene in this matter. "Our motions were in vain because we did not have a majority of councilors to support the initiative," CC stated.
