The island secretary of the PSOE of Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo, has accused the Canarian Coalition of "perverting parliamentary action in its indecent campaign of harassment against Juan Manuel Sosa." Corujo explained that the parliamentarian David de la Hoz used the question time on access to documentation "improperly, while lying by stating that he had not received documentation that was indeed sent to him by the Government."
"The intervention of Julio Pérez, Minister of Public Administrations, has exposed David de la Hoz, demonstrating that he is lying when he says he has not received the reports from Public Service on the personal situation of Juan Manuel Sosa," said Corujo, who points out that the president of Parliament himself, Gustavo Matos, had to reproach David de la Hoz for improperly using his right to request information, "turning his question into an allegation in a manner incompatible with the Parliament's Regulations."
"The infamous persecution of Juan Manuel Sosa by the Canarian Coalition only aims to break the will of the councilor to force his resignation, which could be described as authentic extortion," said Corujo, who recalled that "the Minister of Health, Blas Trujillo, already denied in Parliament on November 9 that the councilor had unduly collected any amount."
"How this situation has been reached"
In a statement, the president of the Cabildo and regional deputy also reviews "how this situation has been reached" with Sosa. "The Canarian Coalition and San Borondón reached an electoral agreement by which Juan Manuel Sosa was in the 5th position on a joint list to the Cabildo of Lanzarote, and when the new corporation was formed, Sosa was appointed spokesperson for the Canarian Coalition Group in the Cabildo of Lanzarote in July 2019. As a result of this appointment, the Autonomous Community grants him the status of special services and continues to pay his salary," she recalls.
"At the beginning of December 2019, San Borondón breaks its agreement with the Coalition and instructs Sosa to leave the spokesperson position, and the councilor follows the instructions of his party. At the end of that month, San Borondón and the PSOE sign an agreement, and Sosa joins the Government Group and is delegated the powers of the Health and Health Planning Area, so Juan Manuel Sosa sends a letter to Public Service communicating his change of situation, asking them to update his special services," adds the president, who specifies that "Public Service agrees to Juan Manuel Sosa's request and communicates it to the councilor, but does not communicate it to the Canarian Health Service."
According to Corujo, "in May 2021, the Canarian Coalition begins to pressure Juan Manuel Sosa to leave the Government Group and join a possible motion of censure with the Popular Party, which had been agreed directly with Génova, as has been verified in these days." "When Sosa refuses to leave the Government Group or resign so that another person from the Canarian Coalition could enter, a dirty campaign of harassment and demolition of the councilor is launched," she denounces.
"This story began with a very serious accusation from the Canarian Coalition stating that Sosa was charging as spokesperson for the nationalist group, impersonating the spokesperson for CC. The truth is that the Canarian Coalition irregularly obtained personal information from the councilor, as there is no record of any request for information in this regard, and some source passed them incomplete information because Public Service had not communicated the change of situation to the Canarian Health Service. They did not realize that Sosa is a civil servant (in Lanzarote there are only three doctors from the SCS who are civil servants) and his changes of situation are managed directly by Public Service and not the SCS," she adds, insisting that "all the reports, both from Public Service and from the Cabildo, agree that all the payments that Sosa has received are perfectly legal and that the councilor does not have to return a single euro, contrary to what was stated by the Canarian Coalition."
The accusation of defection
The president has reiterated that the councilor was on a joint list between the Canarian Coalition and San Borondón and that it was his party, San Borondón, who ordered him to leave the spokesperson position of the Canarian Coalition. Likewise, it was his party who signed an agreement with the PSOE for him to join the Government Group. "It would be the first time that someone is declared a defector for following the instructions of their party," she questioned.
In addition, Corujo has reproached the Coalition for "lying again by stating that there is a report from the Secretariat declaring Juan Manuel Sosa a defector." "The report does not declare the councilor a defector, it merely points out that the Canarian Coalition has complied with the necessary formalities in the expulsion file," she concluded.
