The spokesman for the Canarian Coalition in the Arrecife City Council, Echedey Eugenio, has expressed his “discomfort and surprise” after verifying in the first meeting held with the drafting team of the Arrecife Supplementary Plan, that the Socialist Party has made “changes in the document that do not have the approval of the City Council.”

According to him, these variations leave out of the plan "the buildings of Las Vírgenes, next to the Argana Alta neighborhood, and the scattered houses on the road to Güime."

“It is astonishing that those who received the punishment of the citizens in the last elections, intend to modify the planning to pursue unconfessable objectives to the citizens,” says the CC spokesman.

Eugenio denounces that the PSOE has changed, in a “unilateral” manner, through the Ministry of Ecological Transition, Fight against Climate Change and Territorial Planning of the Government of the Canary Islands, the solution proposed for the buildings in those areas “behind the back of the Arrecife City Council and the neighbors.”

“We will ask our parliamentarians to demand explanations about these changes that harm the residents of the area and that have no legal or technical justification,” says Eugenio, who considers that this implies “a comparative offense” with the solution adopted by the same Ministry for similar problems in the municipality of San Bartolomé.

In the opinion of the nationalists, those responsible for these changes are trying to paralyze “the approval of the plan with motivations that they do not dare to confess.” “The population must be aware of the economic consequences that this new urban strategy of the PSOE of Lanzarote may have for the capital of the island,” they point out from CC.

From the Canarian Coalition they maintain that this change of the PSOE has the sole interest of “not letting Arrecife evolve to benefit who knows who”, so the municipal spokesperson has already announced that they will raise in the government pact table, “the rescue of the Supplementary Plan and the validation of its procedures by the Arrecife City Council.”

“The affected residents will be summoned to explain the situation, offer them our help and try to mark a joint work line that prevents the tremendous abuse of their interests, after many years of waiting for a planning that, if there is will, should not be a problem for their interests,” announced the CC spokesperson.

Finally, Eugenio recalled that, in addition to these two changes, there is “the elimination of the detailed planning of La Bufona” and the assignment of the Islote del Francés “to another five plots of land to be developed that will make its management and development impossible.”
