Following the announcement from the government group of the Cabildo of the suspension of the Autos Sacramentales in the Los Dolores festival this year 2007 alleging "containment of spending", the Coalición Canaria group in the first Insular Institution has considered that it supposes "a serious mistake". Likewise, it rejects this measure "because of the substance, the arguments put forward and the forms used" by the government group.
In a press release, the nationalists, who "flatly reject" the decision to suspend the Autos Sacramentales proposed by the president of the Cabildo, Manuela Armas, question "the loss of identity of some of our main festivals considered a representation that constitutes almost the only link between the mere festival and its roots".
The nationalists object to Armas' decision, who argued "a containment of spending" as the cause of their suspension, because they consider that "it is not true that the Cabildo is in a situation of economic precariousness" and have gone further in their assessments stating that "it was never in a better financial situation in the previous 19 editions" in which the Autos have been celebrated. Likewise, CC emphasizes that with the previous PSOE-PIL government pacts "it has accustomed us to all kinds of economic waste that have left the first corporation bankrupt". From the ranks of Coalición Canaria they highlight, as an example, "the increase in joint spending on advisors and the press office by more than 150,000 euros of the government group in this legislature", they affirm.
In addition, from Coalición Canaria they assure that "it is absolutely false that there is any formal agreement adopted in any Culture Commission, as the president recently stated in a local media outlet".
The CC group, on the other hand, considers "regrettable" the ways in which the issue has been addressed. According to the nationalists, the government group "have cast doubt on the work carried out by Juan Brito, organizer of these Autos, for the recovery of the popular heritage of Conejero and Canarian throughout his life, without the President, or the Councilor, or any person in charge, having deigned to address him to communicate the decision that they would not have his collaboration after 18 years of dedication, keeping informed by the media or have not even denied the unfortunate information that accused him of pocketing sums of money that have nothing to do with reality".
