At 1:40 p.m., the Canaryfly flight from Gran Canaria arrived in Lanzarote as scheduled. Different authorities and personalities, as well as media, were waiting at the foot of the runway to attend and witness the act of the first baptism of an aircraft of the Canary airline.
The baptism of the first ATR 72 with the name "Villa de Teguise" symbolizes the tribute that Canaryfly has paid to Teguise on the occasion of its 600th anniversary. The mayor of Teguise, Oswaldo Betancort, was in charge of officially unveiling the name of the aircraft, accompanied by the general director of Canaryfly, Régulo Andrade.
"It is a pride for the residents of Teguise and for this speaker to celebrate such a special anniversary with this generous gesture from Canaryfly," said the mayor. "My most sincere thanks to the entire company for contributing to exalt and praise the people of Teguise and making us fly with wings of enthusiasm... The same enthusiasm that Teguise is demonstrating with the multiple celebrations that will culminate on November 15, 2018, the day we commemorate the 600 years of History of the Royal Villa de Teguise," Betancort pointed out. "There are many events that have been programmed with the aim of making visible the antiquity and importance of the Villa, claiming the place that corresponds to us in the concert of past and present history. And for this we need to count on everyone, since the important thing is not to fly high, but to do it accompanied," he concluded.
For his part, Régulo Andrade, general director of the company, confessed on behalf of the Canaryfly family, "that it is a great pride to participate in such a relevant historical milestone for Lanzarote and the Canary Islands, such as the commemoration of the 600 years of Teguise." He also thanked the endearing collaboration of the schoolchildren of the municipality, who designed models of the "Villa de Teguise" aircraft, which from today flies through the skies of the Canary Archipelago. The event ended with the unveiling of a commemorative plaque and the signatures of the general director of Canaryfly and the director of the airport, Manuel Vinagre, in the Book of Honor of the Villa de Teguise.
Award for punctuality and Best Business Initiative
Canaryfly's operation has been awarded 5 stars, the highest distinction in punctuality among airlines, granted by OAG Flightview, the most prestigious company in the management of statistics in the aeronautical sector. "This award is a recognition of Canaryfly's work and effort to offer its passengers the most punctual flights in the Canary Islands at the best price in this year 2017," said Régulo Andrade.
Canaryfly, with an average punctuality of 89.7% between October 2016 and September 2017, has been among the top five most punctual airlines in the world in this ranking prepared by OAG, which analyzes the punctuality of more than 300 airlines that exceed 600 monthly operations.
This award joins the one awarded a few months ago by the magazine Actualidad Económica, which recognized the airline as the Best Business Initiative 2017, and Canaryfly "has positioned itself in the Canary air market as the airline that offers the cheapest tickets to fly between islands, putting on sale each month an average of 18,000 tickets at 5 euros on all its routes, at any time and any day of the week." In that sense, the general management of Canaryfly estimates that "a market share of more than 20% has been reached, which represents an average of 50,000 passengers per month."
