The Cabildo of Lanzarote and the Yaiza City Council agreed to repave the streets surrounding the historic Plaza de Femés. The works are almost ready, but road traffic remains closed during the day to undertake the final details, including the signaling of the streets. The road was completely deteriorated and in recent days it was frankly impassable. Thousands of vehicles circulate around the square every day, as it is a mandatory passage for those traveling between Playa Blanca and Uga or vice versa, using the Femés road that connects with the main road that connects Arrecife and Yaiza.
The administrations congratulate each other
The execution of the works had caused discord in the past, because the Cabildo said that it complied with repaving the road and that the improvement of the streets in the urban area were the responsibility of the City Council. For its part, the southern Corporation always claimed the historical importance of the town and the weight of the traffic it supported daily, urging the First Island Corporation to invest without resentment. Both the mayor of Yaiza, José Francisco Reyes, and the Councilor for Public Works of the Cabildo, Sergio Machín, downplayed the differences of the past and the cost of the investment, highlighting the importance of the infrastructure for the Island.
New works project
The southern City Council is negotiating with the Church and with Historical Heritage the demolition of part of the Femés teleclub, so that vehicles that go from Uga to Playa Blanca do not have to circulate around the square and then flow into the main road. The teleclub building is owned by the Church, and, according to the Councilor for Works of the City Council, José Antonio Rodríguez, Historical Heritage agrees with the intervention. "It remains for the Church to give its concept," Rodríguez pointed out.
