The residents of the Titerroy neighborhood, in the capital of Lanzarote, can make better use of Pio XII Park. This square, built next to the social housing in this working-class neighborhood, had "a dilapidated and old kiosk in its central area, which generated discomfort among the residents due to the continuous visits of people who accessed the interior, leaving it in an unhealthy and unsafe state."
The mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, aware of this neighborhood demand, activated a file that would allow the municipal rescue, and proceed with its demolition. After achieving the dismantling, the mayor, accompanied by the general secretary of the City Council, who took minutes, went to Titerroy on Wednesday morning to start the demolition of its wooden structure, which was in poor condition and created insecurity among families as it was very close to the renovated playground.
During Wednesday morning, workers and machinery from the Department of Public Works of the capital's City Council proceeded to demolish and remove the rubble and debris from the kiosk that once housed a small cafeteria, closed for years.
The workers of the Public Works Area, with the support of trucks and shovels, have left this square free of waste, where residents can now enjoy a larger area, with security and without uncivil disturbances. The works had the support of agents of the Local Police of Arrecife, who created a security cordon to prevent some 'squatters' from accessing the interior and avoid this demolition, which was highly anticipated by the residents of Titerroy.
Yonathan de León has reported that, from now on, "the residents of Titerroy can make better use of this square, without the insecurity and inconvenience caused by the existence of this old structure." Nearby is the renovated playground that the City Council has installed within the global project to improve children's leisure areas in the neighborhoods of Arrecife.
Finally, the mayor has announced that the Municipal Government is finalizing new improvements, with public works, for this square, within a project that it is promoting during this term to renovate and increase parks and public spaces in the neighborhoods of Arrecife.
