Arrecife tears down a house in ruins to prevent it from becoming a focus of crime

The council of the capital of Lanzarote opened a file due to probable dangers for passers-by and neighbors due to the partial collapse of the roof

Arrecife City Council demolishes a house in ruins

The Arrecife City Council has worked this Wednesday morning on the partial demolition of an abandoned house in the La Vega neighborhood. The council has decided to act after verifying "the danger that its structure posed to passers-by and neighboring residents."

This property, on Perú street in the capital of Lanzarote, suffered a partial collapse of its roof, and municipal technicians initiated a file where the possible dangers to the area of ​​keeping this structure standing were verified.  

The mayor of the city, Yonathan de León, deployed this Wednesday the personnel and machinery of his Area, the Department of Public Works, to proceed with the demolition of the affected areas, and wall up the adjoining accesses, to prevent it from becoming a new focus of squatters in the capital.

All these works are carried out with municipal personnel. 

Agents of the Local Police of Arrecife, for security, have cordoned off this area while the partial demolition of the building was being carried out, and the walling of the area whose structure remains safe.

Yonathan de León has reported that after the removal of the rubble “the area will be cleaned up and the surroundings painted in a few days, just as we are doing with other areas of Arrecife." The mayor emphasized that “we are working to ensure that Arrecife changes its urban image.”

The Arrecifes City Council has recently carried out other walling work on other buildings with risks for passers-by, located on Cienfuegos and Fajardo streets. Subsequently, the municipal personnel of the Department of Public Works cleaned and painted the walls of those buildings, and their surroundings.
