The Arrecife City Council now has the services of a specialized company for the annual rat extermination of all public spaces in the municipality. Servicios Antiplagas de Canarias, S.L. has been the winning company in the tender for rat extermination, disinfection, legionella and treatments against xylophages, which has been awarded for an annual amount of 149,037.09 euros, including taxes.
Since the arrival of the government group presided over by Mayor Astrid Pérez, in June 2019, the City Council states that fumigation and rat extermination work had been carried out, but "in specific areas" and "made possible with a minor contract." In this regard, one of the citizen commitments acquired by Pérez and her government group was to accelerate the procedures to have the services of a specialized company that would enable preventive treatments, and on a regular basis, to achieve the eradication of rodents and cockroaches in areas and public roads of the capital of Lanzarote.
Thus, during the past year 2020, the Department of Health of the Arrecife City Council "assembled" the entire administrative procedure to tender the annual service contract for these services, which was put out to tender last summer for almost 200,000 euros.

At the end of December, the award was proposed by the Contracting Table to the winning company of the tender, and Mayor Ástrid Pérez signed this past January the final contract for the provision of the aforementioned service, after the deadlines provided for in the regulations.
The government group emphasizes that "it is the first time" that the Arrecife City Council has, in recent years, a contract of these characteristics, which will allow the City Council from now on to face the rat extermination and disinfection of public areas and the municipal sewage system. "The residents, in these times, had expressed their complaints about the proliferation of rodents in several streets and places of public transit," the City Council points out.
With this award already closed, the City Council has started in these weeks the deployment of rat extermination work throughout the municipality, which has started in the neighborhoods of Tinasoria and Altavista. The Councilor for Health, Saro González, has accompanied the company's technicians in their work through the streets of the capital of Lanzarote in these first days.
